Clinical Bioinformatics Day
Where national pathogen genomics meets the people building the compute.
An afternoon on the bioinformatics behind national-scale clinical and public health sequencing: what the large programmes are actually running, where the analysis and data bottlenecks are, and what the technology sector could usefully do about them. Talks from both sides, a panel, and a drinks reception built for the conversations that follow.

This page is day two of a two-day event. Registration here is for London on Friday 9 October. Day one, GPU-accelerated computing for microbiome and metagenomic research, is in Birmingham on Thursday 8 October, hosted by CLIMB, and is registered separately on the CLIMB website.
Why this afternoon exists.
Pathogen genomics in the NHS, in public health and in biosecurity has moved from pilot to service. The sequencing is largely solved. The bioinformatics, the infrastructure it runs on and the turnaround times it has to meet are not, and the people who could help are mostly in a different room at a different conference.
This afternoon puts them in the same room. Public sector programmes describe what they are running and where it hurts. Technology and solutions providers describe what is actually possible now. Then a panel discussion of experts, followed by a networking drinks reception, as the contacts we make are as important as the talks we hear!
Programme.
Session structure and timings are fixed. Where a slot shows the organisation rather than a talk title, the session is confirmed and the speaker or the title is still being finalised. This page is updated as each is confirmed.
Registration and arrival
Desk staffed from 12:30. Please allow a few minutes for building access.

Who it is for.
The day is pitched at people who run or build this work, rather than at a general audience. Registration is reviewed so the room stays technically useful.
Register for day two, London.
Places are limited and registration is reviewed, so please tell us briefly why you would like to attend. We will confirm by email. This form does not register you for day one in Birmingham; that is done on the CLIMB website.
Thank you, that has been recorded.
We will confirm your place by email within five working days.
Day one, Birmingham.
GPU-accelerated computing for microbiome and metagenomic research
Thursday 8 October 2026, 10:00 to 15:00, Birmingham Central Library. The research-facing half of the programme, hosted by CLIMB, covering GPU-accelerated alignment and basecalling, metagenomic assembly, sequence language models and agentic methods. The two days are registered separately and you are welcome at either or both.
